Vinted Users Voice Anger About Sizing Modifications
Members of the platform have expressed outrage following a change that caused items being listed as the wrong size.
The second-hand shopping app has updated its sizing categories for female and kids' apparel without notifying all shoppers about the modification.
Social Media Backlash
Many shoppers and sellers are expressing on platforms saying Vinted listings now show a different size category versus the original listing as a result of the reclassification.
Vinted explained the new system was more in line with other platforms.
It has advised users to review their products and manually change the size if necessary, which has left users frustrated.
Measurement Approach Modifications
Earlier, the sizing featured numerical and alphabetical indicators, for instance S/8 or M/10.
The updated approach includes an alphabetical indicator and numerical range for example S/UK 8-10.
In some cases, the sizing has been recategorised - for example a size L used to be a 12 but is now a UK 16-18.
User Experiences
Frankie Bridger, who produces content about larger sizing, stated the update "complicates both purchasing and selling".
"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.
Stephanie Gallen, from Glasgow, said garments she listed on Vinted with size 14 labels were showing in the marketplace as measurements 20-22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they may become frustrated," she said.
Required Changes
Another shopper, located in England, stated she felt frustrated by the change as she had to manually change the measurements for "each individual item".
"For me this is particularly frustrating, since I have chronic health issues and platform income has been essential for me since losing part of my income," she explained.
Marketplace Information
The platform boasts over 100 million shoppers, comprising 18 million UK members.
It has emerged as a preferred choice versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.
This is not the initial instance that an unexpected update within the service has received backlash: last year, Vinted reversed a change regarding delivery choices following member complaints.
