The Red Devils Poised to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
The forward, with six months remaining on her contract, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a major signing for the WSL team.
Departure from Munich was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the move are now finalised.
Reliable Goalscoring to Boost United's Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a major uplift to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Old Trafford
The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when United seem to be building momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has seen further activity:
- The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
On the midfielder's new deal, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
