Seamer Atkinson Exacerbates England's Injury Concerns.

'Significant concern' for the English camp after Atkinson goes off with a hamstring injury.

The English seamer increased England's injury problems after leaving the ground during Saturday's play in the Melbourne Test in the Ashes series.

The pace bowler pulled up with his left hamstring post-delivery in his spell during the morning session.

The touring camp stated Atkinson reported "discomfort" and was to take time off the field to undergo evaluation "during the day".

The final Test of the tour beginning on 4 January gets underway this coming Sunday.

The visitors have already lost strike bowlers Mark Wood due to knee trouble and Jofra Archer because of a side injury on this Ashes tour.

A replacement bowler was called up as injury reinforcement.

Atkinson struggled in the opening two Tests, managing only three wickets.

He was dropped for the Adelaide match, before being recalled for the fourth Test to fill the void.

Surrey's Atkinson improved at the MCG, taking two wickets during the host's first knock, then making 28 as a batsman among just a trio of teammates to get into double digits.

Following a brief spell at the end of day one, he returned the next day and had nightwatchman edging to the keeper.

Yet, on the final ball of that over, he sent down a variation to the batsman and promptly felt his left hamstring.

The English bowler was recalled for the Melbourne match after being left out of the third.
