Jennifer Lawrence Expresses Speaking About Donald Trump Would ‘Intensify Divisions’ That’s Ripping the Country Apart
Jennifer Lawrence has declared that she no longer feels suitable to comment publicly against the Trump presidency, concerned it could worsen polarizing arguments and increase separation within the country.
‘I Question the Usefulness’, Notes Lawrence
During a discussion, she reflected, “During the first Trump administration, I believed I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off. But experience has shown, election after election, public figures fail to influence whatsoever on who people vote for.”
She continued, “What’s the point? I’m just sharing my opinion on an issue that’s going to add fuel to a fire dividing the country apart.”
Shifting Views
Jennifer Lawrence has admitted freely about supporting right and leftwing presidential nominees throughout her life. Growing up with a right-leaning family in her home state, she voted for John McCain in the 2008 election before joining the left-leaning politics and stating she understood during President Obama’s term that supporting the GOP was opposing her individual liberties as a female citizen.
Past Statements
In 2015, she stated that Trump winning the presidency could represent “the end of the world” and endorsed Joe Biden in the 2020 election. More recently, she lent her support to Kamala Harris, “because I feel she’s a strong contender and I am confident that she will make every effort to safeguard abortion access.”
Hollywood’s Stance
Jennifer Lawrence was supported by many in the entertainment industry in her disapproval of Trump as a returning figure, but the minimal impact public figures have over the electoral decisions was highlighted by his election win.
“Another four years appears changed,” noted she of Trump’s presidency. “As he stated his intentions. We understood his record for his first term. He was transparent. And voters made that decision.”
Current Projects
Jennifer Lawrence is highlighting Die, My Love, director Lynne Ramsay’s movie in which she portrays a new mother who struggles with her mental health in the countryside. Speaking at a interview session for the project in the film festival, the star addressed the situation in the Middle East: “I’m terrified. It’s mortifying. What’s happening is no less than a humanitarian crisis and it’s terrible.”
Additional Thoughts
The actress elaborated by expressing that she was disheartened by “the disrespect in the discourse of U.S. political debates right now and how that is going to be accepted to the children today. It’s going to be normal to them that elected officials deceive.”
Lawrence attempted to refocus outrage about the issue to decision-makers rather than celebrities. “Stay focused on the people in charge,” she advised, seen by observers as a nod to the declaration signed by thousands of entertainment industry figures to refuse engagement with certain cultural organizations.
Personal Connections
The actor, who won an Oscar at a young age for her performance in Silver Linings Playbook, is generating Oscar buzz for her work in the new film. Although Ramsay has disputed the narrative being interpreted as one of post-birth struggles and psychological distress, she said that she did relate to elements of her film narrative after the arrival of her youngest child, shortly after filming concluded.
“It was fear about my child,” she commented, “envisioning every worst-case scenario, and then second-guessing everything that I was attempting. I was seeing a therapist, but I began using a treatment called Zurzuvae and I took it for two weeks and it really helped.”
Professional Experiences
The actor also spoke of the empowering aspect of completing nude scenes in the project while she was expecting and limited physically.
“It’s refreshing,” she said, about having to cast off vanity. “I mean, I occasionally wonder where I’m like, How exactly do I differ between my work and that profession? But it doesn’t trouble me deeply.”
